Hoyer Attends Fifth District Christmas in April Events

FIFTH DISTRICT, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5)attended Christmas in April Events today in Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties, where community volunteers rehabilitated the homes of low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners to improve their living conditions. Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties both have local Christmas in April volunteer organizations that work in partnership with the communities. Charles County’s Christmas in April event is a part of the national Rebuilding Together organization where the last Saturday in April serves as a National Rebuilding Day.

“I was honored to visit with homeowners and volunteers as repairs were made to Fifth District homes today that will assist homeowners and strengthen neighborhoods and communities,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer. “These homeowners often have to delay repairs or go without critical home maintenance in order to make ends meet and afford basic necessities such as food and rent. To date, more than 3,600 homes have been repaired by these organizations in Charles, St. Mary’s and Prince George’s counties, and nearly 139,000 volunteers have come together to help their neighbors. I thank volunteers for taking time out of their schedules today to support veterans, low-income families, individuals with disabilities, and elderly residents in our community.”

Congressman Hoyer visited Fifth District homes in Mechanicsville, La Plata and Fort Washington where volunteers did a number of repairs including painting, repairing front porch railings, placing grab bars in bathrooms, kitchen upgrades and yard work.
