WALDORF, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) attended the 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast hosted by the Charles County NAACP and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Nu Zeta Omega Chapter.

"It was a great pleasure to join the Charles County NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and others at their annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast and for the National Day of Service," stated Congressman Hoyer . "On Monday, we will be witnessing a historic moment when Barack Obama takes his second oath of office as President of the United States, and it is appropriate to look back on how we as a nation reached this day."

"This year, we mark the fiftieth anniversary of Dr. King's ‘I Have A Dream' speech during the March On Washington and 150 years since Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation," continued Congressman Hoyer . "And as we observe these historic moments, we will celebrate the continued bend of ‘the arc of the moral universe' of which Dr. King spoke. Our hopes and aspirations for the ‘more perfect union' that President Obama has championed will ensure its continued curvature. I believe that together we can fulfill Dr. King's dream and teach our children to imagine a better future of their own."

Congressman Hoyer attended the Prayer Breakfast as part of the National Day of Service, which was designated by President Obama as a day for Americans to come together to serve their communities in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Prayer Breakfast was designated a National Day of Service event by President Obama's Inauguration Committee.
