Hoyer Announces Assistance to Firefighters Fire Prevention & Safety Program Grant Award

May 1, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) announced that the International Association of Arson Investigators in Crofton, Maryland has been awarded $713,700 in federal grant funds through the Fire Prevention & Safety Program, an initiative included in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The funding will be used for a fire prevention program.

"I'm pleased the International Association of Arson Investigators has received this critical funding," stated Congressman Hoyer. "The IAAI, which is
headquartered here in the Fifth District, performs important work as a leader in fire investigation, training, technology, and research. With this additional
funding, the Association can continue supporting fire investigators in communities here in Maryland and throughout the country."

"The IAAI is honored by the award of a Fire Prevention and Safety grant," stated Roger A. Krupp, President of the International Association of Arson Investigators. "These funds will allow us to continue to provide online training to our nation's fire investigators, who provide a valuable service in
keeping our communities safe by determining the origin and cause of fires. Since the award of our first FP&S grant in 2005, we have been able deliver
over 750,000 contact hours of training to over 50,000 investigators via CFITrainer.net® at no cost to their communities. The FP&S grant program is
an excellent example of government funding that supports fire protection professionals at the grass roots level."

As co-chair of the Congressional Fire Caucus, Congressman Hoyer took a lead role in helping establish the Assistance to Firefighters Program (AFG), which awards grant funding to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities. Since 2001, AFG has provided nearly $6 billion in
assistance to first-responder organizations to obtain emergency response equipment, protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and
training. Click here for more information.
