NEWSLETTER: Ensuring Equal Representation for the Citizens of DC

April 23, 2021

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSMAN HOYER

This week I was proud to bring H.R. 51, the Washington, DC Admission Act, to the House Floor for a second time and ensure its passage. I continue to be a strong supporter of DC statehood, as not just a matter of civil rights, but of equality for all Americans. H.R. 51 will make sure that the more than 700,000 residents of the District of Columbia have an equal voice in our democracy once and for all.

There is no justification for continuing to deny the residents of the District of Columbia a voice in our government. No other democratic nation in the world denies the citizens of its capital city a voice in their government. America, representing the greatest democracy around the world, should not either.

With a Democratic Senate and President Joe Biden in the White House, I remain hopeful that we can achieve statehood for the District of Columbia. I will continue to urge the Senate to take up H.R. 51 to ensure our neighbors in DC are treated fairly.

As always, I encourage all Fifth District residents to continue to share their concerns and insights with me by contacting my office or connecting with me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. If you are experiencing a personal difficulty such as issues accessing veterans benefits or another problem regarding a federal agency and you wish for my office to place an inquiry on your behalf, please complete the casework request form by clicking here.

Sincerely Yours,
