Congressman Hoyer Visits Maryland Manufacturers as Part of "Make it in America" Tour

August 5, 2010

BELTSVILLE, MD –  Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) today visited Maryland manufacturers as part of his "Make it in America" tour to discuss the Democrats' recently launched Make it in America agenda. Hoyer visited with the owners and employees and toured the facilities of three manufacturers located in Beltsville, MD:  Capital Plastics Company, Techno Sciences, and Stromberg Sheet Metal Works.

"When the recession hit, many Americans worried that much of the manufacturing industry and the jobs it provided were gone for good," stated Congressman Hoyer. "The Make it in America agenda aims to create jobs and restore the competitiveness of our domestic manufacturing industry by providing incentives for companies to invest in domestic manufacturing through innovation that continues to allow America to be competitive in a global economy."

"In fulfilling the Make it in America agenda, it is critical that we also support technological innovations that will make the manufacturing industry more cost-efficient and competitive," Hoyer continued. "Meeting with these local manufacturers today, I saw firsthand the desire of our citizens to compete in the global economy and I am committed to ensuring that they have the resources and support to do so. The greater the number of goods that are made in America, the greater the opportunities for our middle-class families to make it in America."

Congressman Hoyer meets with the owner of Capital Plastics Company, a family owned business since 1952, dedicated to the highest quality materials, adhesives and custom fabricated plastics products. They are currently constructing the statue shown in the photo for the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

"Make it in America" is a new legislative initiative from House Democrats to increase American manufacturing and create new American jobs.  The American public strongly supports a renewed focus on American manufacturing. This effort builds on House Democrats' actions since the start of the Great Recession to create jobs and lay the foundation for a strong economy.
