Hoyer Statement on President Biden's Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Proposal

May 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after President Biden released his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2022:

"Today, President Biden released a budget proposal that makes investments in programs that will help Fifth District families get ahead and help our economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm pleased that the President's budget seeks to rebuild and strengthen infrastructure systems, which will create good-paying jobs in our state. The President's proposal also makes important investments in our families. The paid leave and child care policies presented in the budget will ensure our families have the resources they need to get ahead in our economy.

"I'm encouraged that the President's budget also recognizes the importance of addressing the threat of the climate crisis, and seeks to bolster efforts to combat climate change in our communities. Many Marylanders reply on the Chesapeake Bay and it's tributaries for their livelihoods, and we must continue to work to preserve the health of this natural resource.

"Last month I sent a letter to President Biden urging him to include pay parity for federal civilian employees in his budget, and I'm pleased he did so. The 2.7% pay increase for federal employees included in today's proposal will help our government recruit and retain the best personnel.

"After four years of budget cuts, the budget proposal put forth by President Biden is a significant step in the right direction. I look forward to working with the Biden Administration and my colleagues in Congress to enact the priorities detailed in the his budget on behalf of every family in the Fifth District."
