Hoyer Statement on Passage of a Fourth Continuing Resolution
Once again, Republicans have voted to kick the can down the road.

The Fifth Congressional District is home to thousands of federal employees and retirees, both military and civilian. Congressman Hoyer is proud to represent them and has led the fight on issues important to public servants, including securing fair pay and benefits, with a strong focus on ensuring pay parity between military and civilian personnel.
Congressman Hoyer has consistently opposed efforts to reduce the wages, benefits, and hours of federal employees in a misguided attempt by some to bring down our nation’s deficit on the backs of middle-class families. Federal employees have already contributed more than $182 billion toward deficit reduction through freezes to cost-of-living-adjustments and changes to retirement benefits.
Throughout his career, Congressman Hoyer has also advocated for quality health care coverage, a solid retirement system, and fair working conditions for federal employees in Maryland and throughout the country.
Once again, Republicans have voted to kick the can down the road.
Once again, Republicans in the House of Representatives have ignored their responsibility to govern, and opted to kick the can down the road.
The Trump Administration's continued attacks on our hardworking federal workforce must end.
Congress should be able to get its work done on time.
The Republican budget resolution adopted by the House of Representatives this morning is just a vehicle for Republicans in Congress to jam through their partisan tax reform plan.
Congress must make fully funding the 2020 Census a top priority. It is disappointing that year after year, Republicans continue to dangerously underfund the U.S. Census Bureau.
The budget resolution passed today is nothing more than a Trojan horse to allow Republicans to jam their partisan tax plan through Congress.
I join in congratulating the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) on their centennial.
I am glad that the House has voted to forestall a government shutdown and a default on our debt obligations – all while taking action to aid those impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and prepare for Hurricane Irma.
I am disappointed that the Trump Administration announced it will only increase federal employees' pay by 1.9% for calendar year 2018, while increasing military personnel's pay by 2.1%.
