Arlington Memorial Bridge is an important symbol of our country and a critical part of our region's transportation network.
I am deeply disappointed on behalf of the thousands of Fifth District commuters, including federal employees, who rely on Metro every day to get to work but will have to find another way tomorrow.
I'm pleased that President Obama's budget released today lays out a vision that will continue to strengthen our nation and our state's economy by making key investments that will increase access to economic opportunities, expand access to education, and address pressing infrastructure and transportation needs.
This bill includes some important investments in Maryland's future, ranging from education to modernizing our transportation infrastructure needs.
I rise in support of this sixty-day extension, because it's essential that we do this. The consequences of not doing it would be very, very negative. But I also rise to lament the fact that we have gone ten months knowing full well that this date was upon us and that, theoretically we thought, that funding as well as authorization would end on the 31st of this month.
Congressman Hoyer discussed several issues, including President Obama's 2016 Budget, House Republicans' 56th vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and District of Columbia voting rights, on WAMU's The Kojo Nnamdi Show.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the victim and all those injured in Monday's Metro incident, and I want to thank our first responders and emergency personnel for their work to assist passengers.
Good morning. I want to begin by expressing the gratitude all of us feel for Brit Kirwan's service as Chancellor these past twelve years. He has overseen a period of growth, investment, and a reaffirmation of the University System of Maryland's core mission to expand and enhance higher education in our state. When he retires later this year, he will be greatly missed by the entire University System and all those who have worked closely with him, as I have been privileged to do, to make it one of the best public universities in the country.
The Maryland Congressional Delegation – Team Maryland – has worked tirelessly over the past several months to highlight the benefits of locating this new headquarters in Prince George's County.
I congratulate the Maryland Port Administration on being honored today during the President's ‘E' Awards presentation, which is the highest recognition any U.S. business or organization can receive for significant contributions to increasing our nation's exports.
Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) joined Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, Governor Martin O'Malley, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, Senator Barbara Mikulski, Senator Ben Cardin, Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards, Maryland State Senator Doug Peters, Maryland State Delegate Jolene Ivey, and Prince George's County Council Chairman Mel Franklin to promote Prince George's County as the right choice for relocating the new, consolidated Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters. The new FBI headquarters will be home to 11,000 jobs and is estimated to be a $2 billion economic development project.
Good afternoon. I am here today, along with other Members of the Maryland delegation and state and local officials to declare that at every level of government, Team Maryland is fully behind Prince George's County as the next home of the FBI's headquarters.
