Hoyer Statement on President Biden's FY2024 Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement on the President's FY2024 budget proposal:

"Today, President Biden submitted a Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal that would lower costs for Americans, build up the foundation of our economy, strengthen Medicare, and reduce our deficit.  This budget request reflects Democrats' enduring commitment to invest in the American people.  I was pleased to see President Biden put forward plans to improve Medicare’s fiscal health for another generation, and further reduce inflation.  Similarly, his budget would build on the progress that Democrats made last Congress to build safer communities and continue the generational investments we made in our infrastructure and advanced manufacturing, in combating the climate crisis, and in creating new economic opportunities for Americans and their families.  His proposed budget would accomplish all of this while also cutting our deficit by three trillion dollars. Crucially, it would not raise taxes on Americans making less than $400,000 a year and would instead require the wealthiest individuals and corporations to pay their fair share to help secure America's success.

"Not only is President Biden's budget good for the country; it is good for Southern Maryland.  As a longtime advocate for our many federal workers and military families in Maryland and throughout the country, I was glad that President Biden called for a 5.2% pay raise for our federal workforce and for our men and women in uniform.  Additionally, the proposed budget would make a historic investment in Full-Service Community Schools like the dozens of Judy Centers throughout Maryland that I have helped champion.  President Biden also addressed America's national security needs, requesting significant resources to further the important work at military installations in my district like Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Fort Meade, NSWC Indian Head, and Joint Base Andrews.

"President Biden's budget is part of our effort to set America up for success – not just today but for generations to come.  I look forward to working with him and other members of his administration, such as OMB Director Shalanda Young, to follow through on these bold plans and advance their implementation.  Similarly, I will continue working with my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee to ensure that we keep our government funded and functioning For The People.  Together, we can execute on the vision woven through this budget and ensure that everyone can Make It In America."
