7201 Corporate Center Drive, Hanover, MD 21076 The Purple Line, a proposed 16-mile light rail or bus rapid transit line in the State of Maryland suburban area of Washington, D.C., extending from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George's County, is currently in the project planning stage, with the Federally required combined Alternatives Analysis and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (AA/DEIS) having undergone public hearings in the Fall of 2008. Maryland MTA is preparing a recommendation for a locally preferred alternative (LPA) and is concurrently developing an application for New Starts funding. New bus facilities would help meet the National Capital Region's future mobility needs through expansion of regional bus services and would be designed to address current operating and capital issues. The projects will be LEED-certified and include environmental improvements, such as more efficient heating, ventilation, and lighting systems to reduce power demand and emissions, create a cleaner, healthier work environment for employees, and save capital and operating costs.
