Resources for People with Disabilities PDF Print E-mail

One of my proudest achievements in Congress was helping secure passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, and also the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) in 2008 to clarify the intent of the original Act. The ADA has helped 50 million people with disabilities enter the workforce, achieve independence and have greater physical and technological accessibility. I recognize, as many of my colleagues do, that there are still barriers for people with disabilities, especially in full employment and independent living. That is why I hope my constituents and their families will take advantage of the resources provided through Disability.gov, a project of the Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. This website is a one-stop service for disability-related information on programs and services in communities nationwide. Disability.gov offers more than 14,000 resources on topics such as finding a job, getting health care, paying for housing and applying for benefits. The site provides timely information from federal, state and local government agencies, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations. Visitors can connect with Disability.gov through Twitter, Facebook or Disability.Blog.
