Hoyer, Cardin & Preservation Partners Announce Addition of 73 Acres to Protected Land Across from Mount Vernon

BRYANS ROAD, MD -Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) and Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) joined the Trust for Public Land, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and the National Park Service yesterday in announcing the protection of an additional 73 acres of land directly across from George Washington's Mount Vernon estate.

When he entered politics at the age of 27, Steny Hoyer wanted to be the top man in Annapolis. He worked the halls of the State House, eventually winning election to the Senate president's office in 1975 and becoming the youngest person to serve in that position. Four years later, he became Acting Gov. Blair Lee III's running mate, hoping to eventually become governor.
